Hemp ОКИ Pot: A Domestic Solution for Zero-Waste Agriculture

Bifrost Bioplastics, a company from Jagodina, has developed an innovative solution for sustainable agriculture – the Hemp OKИ Pot, a biodegradable planting pot made from industrial hemp and waste materials from the food industry. With the support of the Innovation Fund and the European Union, a team of experts in agriculture, engineering, economics, and programming, united by a shared vision of a sustainable future, has developed a final product that reduces waste, increases production efficiency, and protects the environment.

Hemp ОКИ Pots eliminate the need for plastic in the seedling production process and fully decompose in the soil within six months, enriching it with organic matter and nourishing plants during that process. Reduced consumption of water and fertilizers, as well as labor savings, represent additional benefits for users of this solution.

“The pots do not need to be removed after planting. They decompose naturally in the soil and nourish the plant during that process. This reduces the need for artificial fertilizers and the amount of water used for irrigation. All of this brings significant savings, along with a strong environmental impact,” said Nenad Jovanovski, Director of Bifrost Bioplastics.

The path to this innovative product was not easy. For years, the team experimented with different combinations of natural materials to arrive at the optimal formulation. The combination of hemp and plant-based waste made it possible to create a product with excellent technical and biological properties.

During the product testing phase, local farmers played an important role by using the Hemp OKИ Pot in practice, thus contributing to its final optimization. In addition to agricultural use, the pots have proven to be an ideal solution for floriculture and household use, offering a sustainable alternative for everyone who wants their choices to support an environmentally responsible approach.

Thanks to investments from the Innovation Fund and the EU support program, the company has made a significant leap forward, from an improvised garage workshop to its first professional production line. The funds were invested in the purchase of specialized machinery tailored for the production of biodegradable pots made from hemp, enabling a stable and high-quality production process. With the capacity to produce tens of thousands of units per day, Bifrost Bioplastics is now entering a new phase of development, with the goal of placing one million pots on the domestic market and expanding into regional and European markets.

The next step is to establish a network of micro-production facilities in Serbia and beyond, enabling local manufacturing of biodegradable and carbon-negative pots. This approach reduces transport costs and CO₂ emissions, while also creating new opportunities for the sustainable development of local communities.

At a time when the world is increasingly searching for alternatives that protect natural resources and the environment, the Hemp OKИ Pot stands out as a technological innovation, and a reminder that high-value solutions can emerge even from small communities. It is a testament to how scientific expertise, vision, and entrepreneurial spirit can be transformed into a product that redefines not only the way we grow plants but also our perspective on the future of agriculture. If zero-waste farming sounds like the future, it has already begun. In Jagodina.
