Learn moreProject title: Device for keeping wine fresh
Organization: Innovation Center of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Belgrade
Scientific area: Mechanical Engineering
The amount of financial support: EUR 50,000 (for two phases)
The bottling of wine from the bottle is carried out on a daily basis, manually, without a precise amount that is poured into the glass, and there is a risk of whether and for how long the same aroma and taste of wine will be maintained. A device for displaying and distributing bottle drinks developed by the Innovation Center of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade allows to fill a certain amount of wine, and more importantly, the remaining wine in the bottle is kept fresh. Environmental protection - an inert gaseous atmosphere (argon used in the food industry) - provides unchanged wine characteristics one year after the first opening. The dosing system is adjustable so that it is possible to pour over a certain amount of wine into the glass. Finally, the device is separated from bottles and cork. Together, the device is cheaper and smaller in size than its competitors and can serve as many as 20 bottles of wine at the same time. It is ideal for restaurants and bars serving wines, as well as catering.
At the moment, the technology is licensed by HORECA company from Serbia. The Innovation Fund has supported the patenting of this technology at the international level as well as the production of a 3D prototype.

Project title: Antimicrobial Active Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Packaging
Organization: Innovation Center of the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy University of Belgrade
Scientific area: Chemical engineering
The amount of financial support: EUR 18,000
The microbial contamination of non-sterile pharmaceutical products has long been the major concern in the context of public health risks and drug efficacy. The best product protection, and thereby consumer safety, comprises the implementation of antimicrobial agents into the package content or the packaging material itself. Antimicrobial packaging is more efficient because of the slow and controlled migration of the active component into the package content, but it can also decrease the challenges with the further addition of antimicrobials during storage and transport. The research group from the Innovation Center from the Faculty of Technolgy and Metallurgy came up to an idea of producing antimicrobial packages, mainly antimicrobial pharmaceutical or cosmetic bottles or boxes. Antimicrobial films have been produced in various ways, but it is not possible to make bottles and boxes out of them. The appropriate antimicrobial formulation, in accordance with European Pharmacopoeia, was developed. The following analyses showed promising results: Enterobacteriaceae, total plate count (bacteria and yeast), aerobic mesophilic count Escherichia coli, yeast and mould.
This project funded the development, testing of materials through mathematical models and final analysis of new materials, as well as establishing cooperation with the company Uniplast.
Project title: Hydrogen Sorption Analyzer HSA-ULNS
Organization: Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences

Project title: A new anti-viral agent
Scientific Research Organization: Institute for Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy, University of Belgrade
Scientific area: Biotechnology
The amount of financial support: 9,000 €
Antiviral drugs most often act as inhibitors of different cell processes and have a key role for the viral multiplication cycle (inhibitors of reverse transcriptase in retroviruses like HIV, inhibitors of viral integrase or protease). The main issues with these drugs are viral mutations that make drug-resistant breeds besides the multiple side effects. New approach in HIV-1 therapy uses combination of inhibitors to minimize probability of forming superior mutation. The principal overall objective of the invention is to provide an anti-viral polypeptide and derivatives thereof, including prophylactic and therapeutic applications against viruses.
The active agent is an isolated and purified new, plant-based protein of specific amino acid sequence whose whole sequence or parts exhibit anti-viral activity. This amino acid sequence is completely new with no higher than 35% identity with known sequences. Anti-viral activity was confirmed against HIV-1 and HSV-2. Moreover, its high stability under alkaline conditions, absence of cytotoxicity and of mitogenic effect in the range of therapeutic concentrations are advantageous over known proteins of the same mechanism of anti-viral action.

Project title: Silage stabilizers
Organization: Faculty of Agriculture University of Belgrade
Scientific area: Agro/ Food
The amount of financial support: EUR 20,000
The present invention relates to the preservation of animal feed. It makes a big difference in the appearance of the commercial application of additives and it is an important finding because of the ejection of oxygen from silo mass. Air (oxygen) is a major cause of deterioration of silage, because it empowers unwanted chemical and microbiological activity, which leads to deterioration of silage, by ejecting oxygen and absorbing the moisture. In this way, the initial nutritional values of the plants prior to ensiling are preserved during the conservation, whereas the present invention specifically reduces the loss of dry matter during the conservation process.
Additionally, it adapts to the conditions of each farm individually depending on its capabilities, in a completely new and safe way with regard to human and animal health, as well as on the protection of the environment.
Innovation Fund supports the patent drafting and filing, packaging of stabilizers and their testings.

Project title: Device for keeping wine fresh

Innovation Fund is supporting the Intellectual property protection of this invention.
